    Description

Presented is a wonderful Irish sterling silver platter or stuffing spoon. This spoon dates to 1779. This is a large, long handled spoon, and would be suitable for any general serving purpose. The terminal of the handle is engraved with a crest of a griffin. The juncture of the handle to the bowl is monogrammed with 'C' above 'I M'. The silver of the handle is very thick, and this is overall a very well-constructed piece.
This piece is hallmarked on the stem with crowned harp for the city of Dublin, the Irish sterling standard mark, the date letter G for 1779 and the maker's mark for Michael Keating.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There is some surface wear throughout. The back of the handle has a small dent, but we do not believe this is a monogram removal, we think it is more likely this is the mark from a larger dent being taken out. There are no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
This piece is approximately 12 inches long.
This piece weighs 110 grams or 3.8 ounces.
