The “show must go on” for Adele, after the British singer-songwriter continues to recover from a bacterial infection that left her partially deaf in one ear.
During her Las Vegas residency show at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace over the weekend, the 36-year-old told concertgoers that she is no longer in pain but is suffering from partial hearing loss as a result.
“It is the most painful thing that has ever, ever happened to me in my life—it was worse than childbirth.”
The “Rolling in the Deep” singer said she contracted the infection from a “rare water bacteria” while on tour in Munich, Germany, over the summer.
“[It] is hard to treat, so I was on the wrong antibiotics for a few days,” she said, noting the pain was so intense that she wanted to “chop my ear off.”
“They managed to give me one that started to work. I’m no longer in pain, which is great, [but] I’m a bit deaf in my left ear,” she said.
Despite still dealing with the symptoms, the Grammy-award-winning artist said there was “no way” she would miss the show.
During that same performance, Celine Dion was also in attendance and joined Adele on stage where the two were overcome with emotion given the health struggles Dion is currently going through as well.
This isn’t the first time Adele has experienced a health ailment during shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. In 2013 she was left with a fungal skin infection as a result of having to perform under the hot lights.
Adele began her Las Vegas residency back in 2022 and plans to continue through Nov. 23.
“I will fantasize about these shows and any shows that I’ve done over the last three years, and I’ll really, really hold them in the bottom of my heart forever. It has been amazing; I just need a rest,” she continued.
